The startingbid is $16,000If you have 1955-56 Chevy or Pontiac, or realoffer call me.I’ve worked up the numbers and you could not evenbuild this bike for less than $25,000. This is not slap together bike most of it is still 1949H-D Vin: 49EL0000 Title:  Clean andclear Illinois title for this 1949 Harley – Davidson Panhead. Description: You are bidding on 1949 Harley-DavidsonPanhead Chopper.  This bike started life as Los Angeles police bike:  Bike 171.This was one of the less than 700, 1949 police issue Panheadsthat left the factory with Springer front end instead of the new wideglide.  This bike has been choppersince the late 50’s.  Frame:  1949Harley-Davidson               Floorboard mounts removed               Originalfat bob tank mounts replaced with aftermarket                Forklock:  yes.  working: no               Paintedbase coat clear coat black               Forks:   4” over chrome in-line Springer.                 Factoryrockers, factory top tree.  Correctheadlight.                Chrome:average               Bars:      12” apeswith 3” dog bone risers. Trans:    1949Harley-Davidson 4-speed.               Sloptop, suicide shift.               Rebuiltwith 10,000 miles on it.                                             L.A.P.D.  171     Stamped on trans case. Clutch:  Open clutch –open belt.               ½ inchPrimo belt drive.               2000miles on new belt.               Clutch pedal:      Bikehas Lee clutch pedal.                              VERYRARE!They have been featured in several“David Mann” paintings. Rear just rebuilt. Fender:    1949 – Smoothed and lowered with Beehivetaillight. Oil tank:   Paucho –chrome with filter.  Chrome: average.Seat:      Customleather – Woodstock Custom  Tanks:   gallon fatbobs with new style screw in caps.               The onesthat don’t leak! Pegs:     GenuineAnderson foot pegs front and rear.  Paint:     Custompainted flames and assembly by me at my shop – Painted Horses  815-943-0992 Engine: This bike has two (2) engines.                  Thefactory 1949 Harley-Davidson 61” EL engine had lifter go bad.               Whenthis happens it sends metal shavings through the whole engine.               Thisalso caused some hairline cracks from the cam bearing up through the rearcylinder oiler.               That’sthe bad news.                   The goodnews – this is 100% fixable.  About a$3-400 fix.               When the lifter screwed up my ELmotor put in the S&S lower end had set aside for another project bike.  I’ve owned this bike for 30 years and use itto promote my shop – it needed to be running for shows.  So made that happen with my spare engine. Current engine in frame is asfollows:   S&S engine cases – with cleantitle/MSO from S&S.S&S 74” flywheelsS&S high volume oil pump.020 over 74” pistons               FactoryHarley-Davidson Pan heads with o-ring conversion.Shovelhead exhaust ports welded onfactory heads. Haven’t had an exhaust leak in over 50k miles.  Great setup!               S.U.carb               Andrews“A” grind cam.               Solidlifters               7000 mileson this engine Factory engine includes the following: 1949 EL engine cases (cam bearingcrack)Vin: 49EL8515           Illinois title: clear61” flywheels including nuts,retainers, etc.Connecting rodsDistributer Lifter blocksNew polished cam coverNew pinion and sprocket shaftHead bolts, various shims, spacers,and washers This current auction is for (one) bike and engines.   If you don’t like to ride jockey shift “it’s not foreveryone” would convert the bike to standard shift and mousetrap clutch forthe buyer.   If switched will bekeeping the clutch assembly.   Thebayonet dagger shift handle is not included with the sale.  Period. The new shift handle is Hurst stick from 69 Corvette  I’ve owned this bike 30 years and have logged over 135,000miles on this bike.  It has won severalshows in the last 30 years.  It has beenseen in Easyriders, In the Wind, and was the cover bike for Biker Magazine’sSweet Hog of Mine.  This is not trendy chopper.  This bike and several we have built at myshop, Painted Horses, are built to be timeless.  This bike was cool 30 years ago, it’s coolnow, and it will be cool 30 years from now. There are many Panheads for sale at any given time, few are at thislevel.   This bike is for sale locally so reserve the right to endthe auction at any time.  If you aregenuinely interested in the bike, you should have questions, several in fact. $16,000 is more than fair price for bike at this level, but if you are goingto spend this kind of money…..ASK QUESTIONS.
