About the sellers: My friend purchased this great Norton off of eBay quite few years ago from seller in the SF Bay Area.  He never really had the time to properly enjoy this bike so it's been sitting for too long and became bit stale as they all will from lack of use.  He brought it to me to make run properly again and to help with the sale. I'm long time Norton enthusiast, owning and maintaining many examples over the years with lots of involvement in club events and vintage rides.  If you've been to some of these events too, perhaps our paths have already crossed?    The seller is now leaving the area for retirement and has several  newer bikes that he needs to have space for in his new home.  So his loss could be your gain?  Please feel free to call or text XXX-XXX-XXXX with any questions.
About the bike: It's good looking and great running Commando that for one reason or another acquired an XXX engine from the previous owner.  believe this XXX is in excellent condition as it has very good compression and pulls like freight train with massive torque. And here's the kicker; if we get the price we need you'll also get the original numbers matching XXXcc engine that came with the bike as new.* It's in unknown condition and would expect valve, piston and ring work at the minimum, but it's all there as you can see from the photos.  The exhaust port threads are good and there is one broken fin on the left side of the cylinder head, definitely fixable by good welder. All can add is that it probably was taken out for reason?  But we'll leave that up to you to find out.  If this spare motor is not wanted or needed we can lower the sale price of the running bike.  At this time I'm valuing the spare motor at $X,XXX that can be taken off the final sale price. Other small issues; the handle bar switch housings are on the wrong sides and need to be reversed.  The seller bought this bike without  sidestand, common problem on XXXX's The fix is to install the later model sidestand by drilling and tapping the pivot pin for hardened Allen bolt to secure the stand.  Not hard to do if you have the right equipment and fortunately the centerstand works well. The good stuff'; properly sealed fuel tank, single Mikuni style carburetor, nice light  clutch free of slippage or drag. smooth shifting transmission with good chains & sprockets, strong front brake. Decent Dunlop TTXXX tires, good chrome on the wheels with SS spokes, charging system working well, Boyer ignition and overall very good cosmetics with couple of dings on the mufflers. This is bike that you can ride and enjoy right now as you continually improve on what's there. will add however that this bike is best used as vintage collectible that can be used for shows, rally's and vintage oriented riding.  wouldn't recommend it to the uninitiated as daily driver or commuter bike.  It deserves committed owner that's familiar with or wants to learn the in's and outs of enjoying fine English thoroughbred. If time allows, will make and post link to a  video of the bike starting and running through the gears.
*Please note, the photographed engine stand is NOT included. On Feb-XX-XX at XX:XX:XX PST, seller added the following information:Corrections and additions:  It is actually real Mikuni carburetor, the steering lock and key is missing but easily purchased and installed for around $XX. And the broken cylinder head fin is on the left hand side of the spare engine. On Feb-XX-XX at XX:XX:XX PST, seller added the following information:Hi all, found the time...see and hear this bike start and run on YouTube:https://youtu.be/XXXBkYXeJDA
On Feb-XX-XX at XX:XX:XX PST, seller added the following information:Per an interested bidders request checked the gearbox serial number and it is XXXXX. have no issues with these numbers as its been my experience that these numbers can be all over the place, sometimes missing all together and with or without suffix's & prefix's.  don't know the earlier history of this particular bike so it is possible that the gearbox case is not original? The interested buyer maintains that the numbers should match engine and frame numbers in all cases. don't think so?  And in any event it's still worthy Norton with an installed engine that comes from later model and already has different serial number than the frame.
