I'vebeen riding Airheads for long time. And our shop has been servicing and building custom Airheads for many years. The RXX/X is my favorite, for its versatility and reliability. Ourshop restores one or two every year and we build cafe racer similarto this one every three or four years.A properly set-up RXX/X can cruise the highways at XX mph all day long, and ripthrough the canyon roads as well as any motorcycle of its era. Andits reputation for reliability is legendary.

WHEEL-TO-WHEELFRAME-OFF RESTORATIONHIGHPERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS
Aswith any full restoration, the engine and chassis have been completelyoverhauled. In the spirit of creativity, we've removed the entire top of the engine and fabricated neat front engine cover to protect the electrics. The frame, rims, and other black parts have been powder coated.
Forincreased electrical reliability, we converted to electronic ignitionand an upgraded modern solid-state charging system. We machined each head to accept second sparkplug, and the spark is provided by high output coils. This set-up prevents detonation when lower octane gasoline isused, which allows us to retain the high compression of the stockengine without requiring the use of XXX octane gasoline. With dependability priority, we performed only minor power modifications to the engine. Weinstalled high performance pistons for slight increase inhorsepower. And we lightened and polished the rockers and lightened theflywheel, which resulted in quicker throttle response without sacrificing reliability.
As you might assume, all engine parts are new: maincrankshaft bearings, con-rod bearings, pistons,  rings, valve guides, valves. We overhauled the transmission and clutch and replaced all drive train and rear-end oil seals.We overhauled the carbs. We relocated modern sealed battery underneath the swingarm pivot to provide lower center of gravity.The wheels have been rebuilt using stainless steel spokes and stickyAvon Road Rider sport tires keep the rubber-side down.
Better braking isprovided by dual disc front brake conversion using genuine BMWparts. The master cylinder is hidden under the gas tank. The mini-instruments have vintage look, while providing all the warning lights we expect on modern bike. The handlebar mini-switches are ingeniously wired through relays to handle the high voltage required for the lighting and starter motor, and the result is very clean-looking handlebar. All controls are easily accessed.
You'll probably use the starter button to fire the bike to life, but the kick start lever works well. When you choose to kick start the bike, you'll enjoy the expressions on the faces of the younger generation watching you.
The Beemer's unique design turns heads, and the bike handles like dream. Stopping power is phenomenal.

Q:  Yes see you do. The RXX is one of my favorite bikes. Wondering by removing the cover off the top of motor does that harm any of the electrical stuff ?
A:  The RXX/X is one of my favorite vintage bikes as well. The only electrical stuff now exposed to the weather is the starter motor and wiring. We have never had problem, but full day of riding in the rain might not be very healthy to that wiring. Most starter motor/and wiring ARE exposed on most motorcycles. The top of the engine that we've removed acts as the air box of course, and we don't need an airbox anymore, using air cleaner pods.
We want unique look and we want to save weight, and we accomplish both with our modification. Glad you like it. Q:Thanks will link at the video. So how much horse power are you cranking out with these improvements you do?  How light is bike also?A: don't have dyno, but an educated guess would be XX HP to the rear wheel.  The improved throttle response and quicker acceleration is noticeable. Curb weight is exactly XXX pounds with gallon of gas in the X.X gallon tank, or XXX pounds with full tank, which is XX pounds lighter than stock. The front carries XX.X% of the weight, while the rear holds up XX.X%.
